A Wednesday in May

The first one up on most days is this lovely puff of cotton candy. She gives the best morning snuggles. Luckily she hasn't been waking up while I have my early morning hour walk. I make some tea while we wait for the others to rise.

Always the second one up looking for morning hugs. Today we attempted a slower morning. Evie helped make ricotta pancakes. She's happy and capable to lend a hand in the kitchen. This summer I have the goal to bake with the children at least once a week so that they may become more independent and confident.
Mini pancakes for stuffed animals friends. And a little bit of blueberry syrup to make things feel special.
Before Mako and I left for music lessons we had some time for school. We have been reading aloud an excellent series, Chopin Son of Poland: The Later Years. We read about and listened to Chopin's Revolutionary Etude. We read one poem a day from Sing a Song of Seasons. Clara is progressing in her ability and desire to read. We are proud of her! The somewhat boring tasks of math drills, cursive and spelling were completed as well. I think of them as vegetables that must be eaten. Later in the day I read to the girls Happy Family The Fairchild Family series which we completed and the little two finished the audiobook of The Mouse and the Motorcycle.

Wednesday is Viola day. I am always impressed with Mako's concentration and ability to focus. We are preparing for his solo certificate day. It's nice to have some time away from his sisters. We stopped by Great Harvest on the way home, I was craving one of their chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips and Mako had a cream cheese scone. He seems to gravitate towards cozy comfort foods, flavors like cinnamon.

The day begin quite cold and dreary, we have missed the glorious sunny days that May began with. Happily the latter half of the day became warm and pleasant again. The children played outside while I weeded the front garden, they danced around the cherry tree holding hands and singing pleasantly. I decided to trim the boxwoods which may not have been for the best. M finally planted my Gardenia Peony in the backyard, right in the middle of the Oriental Poppies. The day ended in sunny twilight twirls.
